On the 19th and 20th of May 2001, myself and two co-hosts were able to travel to Sydney and take part in the Friends of Science Fiction convention, at which they presented James Marsters. We had been waiting to attend for about nine months. At the convention, we spent Saturday as fans and did partake of fan type craziness. We got autographs, photos, he held our hands, made us laugh. Literally it was a wow day James was the first real member of the Buffyverse we had met and it was exhilerating (or however you spell it - you get the jist). On the Sunday we attended as fans and media. We took our mini-disc and talked with fans, organisers and had amazing luck when told by Robert Brown of the Friends of Science Fiction, that we had access and could interview James. It was awesome. Having read many interviews before heading over - I knew what we wanted to ask and did an interview which strayed from typical questions, like "What's it like to work on Buffy" (he loves it) and instead asked questions which differed from the norm. It was bizarre interviewing James... When we walked into the room Rob explained that we were from Student radio and that we had about ten minutes with him. I hit professional mode and indicated to James that I wanted to sit next to him so that Cate, my tech babe could ensure both our voices were recording evenly. Sher, our photographic goddess was gonna handle stills. And we interviewed him. And it was real exciting, but at its base - it was an interview for radio. I asked questions and he answered. I think he enjoyed our questions too, and he was a really lovely guy. This interview led to quite a bit of success for Sher, Cate and I. As a collective we have since interviewed stars from the show Angel, as well as Heather Graham and Matt Damon. While our radio show has now dispanded, we remain a tight team and still have interviewing rights with our old radio station.
